How To Use Twitter To Leverage Your Real Estate Business
What are you doing? Sounds familiar? It is to all those who avidly use Twitter. Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows you to answer the question, “What are you doing?” by letting you send short text messages 140 characters in length. These short messages are called “tweets” and you share your tweets to your “friends” or “followers.” Your tweets describe what you are up to at the moment and are published online.
The internet provides many means of internet marketing opportunities that the choices can sometimes seem overwhelming. Sure, you may have your own personal or company website, complete with all the works (SEO, content management, user registration, customized property search, lead generation, etc.) … but you want more. Of course you want to be on the edge of technology, moving and innovating your business forward. The growth of social media is the latest and greatest phase of the internet and because of this, real estate agents who are interested in more completely leveraging the power of the internet to make their business grow should be on the lookout.
Now that’s where Twitter comes in. While many people use it just to publish status updates ( that’s informing other people what you’re doing at a certain time),Twitter has possibilities far beyond that. My research showed that the most valuable feature of the site is one’s ability to follow other people’s tweets. A lot of news also breaks on Twitter since it can be disseminated immediately.Also, by using “@” replies, you can actually have conversations with people, like in chat rooms and instant messaging.
Now who on earth would waste their time to know about what you are up to at the moment? For those who are fairly new to online social networking and to Twitter, non-Twitterers if you may, they may not know the value and allure of Tweeting because they still can’t see the need. Especially real estate agents.
Twitter is a great way to stay in contact not only with past and present clients, but with other real estate agents as well. It’s also an excellent way to meet new contacts. The micro-blogging aspect of Twitter could be very valuable to people like real estate bloggers who have great ideas but does not always have the time to write about them. For example, you have just stumbled upon a great way on how to generate leads but you don’t have the time to devote a full post to it so what you can do now is to post the link on Twitter, then maybe someone else who is following you will click on the link and write a post of their own. So Twitter offers a convenient and systematic way to get their message out to not only the rest of the blogosphere but also to the public as well. Twitter helps everyone stay on top of the industry by offering instant communication and dissemination of information.
Always remember to post tweets that people will find interesting and useful. Don’t let things get boring. But don’t make Twitter a marketing platform for your blog or website or to advertise yourself. If you do that, then you totally miss the point. Do this only if you have built an audience that cares. In real estate, one never knows when the next lead or relationship will develop. Twitter is all about the growth and development of these online connections you have made as you find your place in the social world wide web.
