Floors And Flooring
Now that we have tackled the basics of buying and selling a home, let’s move on to how to take care of your home. Let’s start with the floors and flooring. The foundation of any home decorating scheme is literally the beautiful floors. Installing new floors is satisfying but expensive. Though with a small investment and a little grease on the elbow, you can give a renewed life to old floors.
There are wide and wonderful choices available in home flooring today. They range from a sizable selection of wood-planked flooring and various parquet inlays to resilient flooring. Also various kind of tiles and carpeting. But take note of this – before you decide on a total makeover, take a second look at what you already have. Because sometimes there is a treasure in the form of hardwood floors under those several layers of resilient flooring and carpeting. By just cleaning, patching and refinishing those tired and neglected surfaces you can often accomplish small miracles.
Of all the flooring surfaces, wood has always remained a favorite. As it has been for centuries. It is prized for its beauty, resilience, and warmth of color. Wood is often regarded as a high-maintenance choice, particularly high-gloss hardwoods. But now attitudes are changing because new finishes have been developed to make wood a more carefree option.
Wood flooring is available in a number of sizes and makeups today. And each offer unique advantages. Oftentimes the flooring is produced from the class of dense-grained woods known as hardwood. Among the family of hardwoods, oak has been the most commonly selected species because it is widely available, very receptive to staining and extremely durable. It will last over many lifetimes if it is well care for. Other less commonly used hardwoods for flooring include maple, walnut, ash, pecan and hickory. Softwoods, as the name implies, present a floor surface that is more readily scarred and dented than hardwoods.
More on floors and flooring coming up on my next posts.
