How To Remove Spots And Stains On Wallpapers
Here are some methods to remove difficult spots and stains on wallpapers:
Remove Ink Spots
To remove ink spots from washable wallpaper, liquid chlorine bleach can be very effective. But be careful, the strength of the bleach can sometimes wipe away the color of the wallpaper along with the ink spot. Test the method in an inconspicuous area to be safe. Dab the ink spot with a clean cloth or a cotton swab dampened with the bleach then quickly rinse the area with a cloth or sponge dipped in clear water to neutralize the bleaching action.
Remove Grease Spots
To remove an old grease spot from wallpaper, use a commercial stain remover, available at stores that sell wall coverings. If on the other hand, the spot is fresh and the paper is washable, blot it with a clean paper towel. Holding the towel against the stain, press the area with a warm, not hot, iron. Change the blotter paper each time it becomes greasy. Continue until the spot is gone.
Remove Heavy Crayon Marks
To remove heavy crayon marks, scape off as much of the wax as possible from the surface with a table knife. Hold several layers of white paper towels over the mark and press with a warm iron until the wax melts and is absorbed with the paper. Sponge away any residue after lifting the wax.
Remove Lighter Crayon Marks
For lighter crayon marks on conventional wallpaper, clean the area with a sponge soaked in dry-cleaning solvent, available at hardware, paint and wallpaper stores. If the crayon color remains on the wax, mix 1 teaspoon liquid chlorine bleach in 1 cup water, and apply the solution to the stain. Test the solution in an inconspicuous area to make sure that it won’t damage the pattern of the paper.
Stubborn Stains
For stubborn stains of any description, consult a wallpaper dealer for suggestions and suitable cleaners. Or cut out the stain and patch the area with matching paper if you have it.
