Before starting work, buy all the paper you need at one time because color can vary from print run to print run. To determine how many rolls a room will need add together the width of walls in feet and then multiply by height. Divide by 30 which is the average usable square feet in an American-made roll, or by 25 if you are using a European-made paper.Subtract a half roll for each normal-sized window and door. You now have a working total, just add one roll for good measure and future patches. A little more if your pattern  has large repeats to match. Draw a picture of each wall if you are uncertain of your calculations, including measurements and the position and size of all the windows and doors. Take the sketch to your wallpaper supplier. An experienced salesperson can offer advice on how many rolls you need to purchase. Also bu compatible paste and a paste brush for standard papers when you place your wallpaper order. Or a water box for prepasted papers.

Remove as much furniture as possible before you begin wallpapering. Spread a drop cloth on the floor and cover remaining furniture. Plug work lights into an outlet in an adjoining room and shut off electrical power to circuits in the room to be papered. Remove all mounted light fixtures, register covers and light-switch and electrical-outlet cover plates. Finally, lay out all of the tools you will need; tape measure, plumb line or chalk line, pencil, utility knife and blades, broad knife, smoothing brush, smoother blade, seam roller, bucket, sponge, rag, step stool or ladder and your work table.
