Choosing Faucets
Home centers and plumbing suppliers carry many different types of faucets. So below are two shopping tips that will help you:
Choose a well-respected brand.
Older faucets are compression valve types with rubber washers that must be replaced from time to time. Faucets with cartridge, ball and ceramic-disk valves are called washer-less but still have parts that periodically need to be repaired or replaced. So if they are made by a well-known manufacturer then you will be able to find repair parts easily.
Brass is better.
The color and finish on the outside may vary but the best faucets have solid brass on the inside. Solid brass is especially durable and corrosion-resistant. The finish is decorative only. Most faucets have a chrome surface. Chrome plating is an inexpensive process that produces a shiny and durable finish. But chrome can be applied over plastic as well as over solid brass. Read the product literature carefully so you’ll know what you are buying.
